History of Beresford's Flooring
In early 1968 John Beresford, a highly skilled
bricklayer, was asked if he could turn his hand to installing
pre-cast Tembo Beams by Richard Lees, a local pre-cast concrete beam
manufacturer. John was very successful in his change of trade and
soon established a reputation for providing an efficient &
professional service.
Over the next few years John's company
“Beresfords†evolved and expanded, whilst maintaining the same high
standards and hard work ethic throughout the company.
John retired in 1994 handing over to his younger
brother Ralph, who maintained Beresfords' enviable reputation whilst
diversifying into new arenas, including metal decking and screeding.
Ralph constantly channelled his enthusiasm into continual
improvement of the working environment for his staff. He invented
the “Gizmo†beam puller and beam rollers to reduce the need for
manual handling and make the job of fixing pre-cast beams safer and
easier.
In July 2000 Ralph Beresford retired and the
company was taken over by John's son Philip.
Chris was subsequently
appointed Managing Director and he focused the company on its core
activities of installing hollow core and beam & block flooring and
concentrated the company's resources on servicing
Bison Concrete
Products requirements and building a closer working relationship. A
successful example of this collaboration was Port Talbot hospital
where Bison won the contract to supply and install over 40,000 m² of
deep beam flooring under an existing floor. Beresford's invented the
Beam Carriage, a sliding counterweight machine, to safely install
the 6 metre, 300kg beams manually; the job was finished ahead of
schedule with no bad backs!
Beresfords have always looked at ways to
protect its workforce, in late 2000 we were one of the first
companies to recognise the potential for safety
air bags in the pre-cast
industry, purchasing their first bags in November 2000. In early
2001 Bison Concrete Products purchased a large quantity of bags to
service its own workforce nationwide. Beresford's took over the
Bison air bag subsidiary in July 2005 and continue to work closely
together to ensure Bison sites are among the safest to work on in
the industry.
Beresfords are constantly innovating new
products to solve construction problems. After many enquiries from
people seeing our products on site, we decided to set up
MASSOLUTIONS to market some of
the products, winning two awards
for innovation at our first exhibition at SED 2007.
From starting with just one gang in 1968,
Beresford's has grown to employ over 120 staff nationwide, offering
unique nationwide labour provision to fulfil customers requirements
anywhere in England, Wales and Scotland. The company strives to have
the best trained air baggers and pre-cast fixers in the industry and
are a major contributor to the
Precast
Flooring Federation Safety Committee and National Precast
Flooring Training Scheme (NVQ training scheme).
